  • We love this book and are giving it to all our kid friends! It is a sweet stone soup like theme. My 2.5 year old never gets tired of it and especially loves it when we're eating pancakes -)
In the back are fun facts about Kenya, the animals there and a few words in Kiswahili that he likes to hear about too.
  • I purchased this for my wife who used it for a bible school activity we held at church. Great book, quick service no problems or issue with the book. The kids at the bible school loved the story when it was read to them to teach them about Kenya and the people there.
  • First, let me mention for those interested in the subject that this book shows babywearing in the background in one of the spreads.

The moral of the story, how a simple dinner became a feast when "all their friends" were invited to share it, is neither overly expressed nor too subtle for little ones. The illustrations are bright and colorful, this book will attract a lot of attention )

Please note that it's a bit wordy, probably suited for the older of the 4-8 crowd. The same advice *definitely* goes for the supplemental information at the back of the book, all sorts of things on how people live in Kenya and a few simple Swahili phrases and, of course, a recipe )
  • My daughters and I saw a theatrical production of the book and then decided to buy it. It was out of stock or on back order just about everywhere I looked. I was bummed. I placed the order through anyway and hoped it wouldn't be too long. Thankfully, it wasn't long after I placed the order that I received notification that the book was on the way. So glad because my girls really love this book and it has even more detail than the play we saw. A great book about community and faith!
  • A simple yet profound story about sharing generously. It is a little like "Stone Soup." The mother is hesitant about inviting so many friends for pancakes. Yet the son was right. There was enough.
  • I purchased the book to introduce a bit of African Culture to my childen. The story is charming and heartwarming and the illustrations are beautiful and colorful adding to the richness of the story.

I liked the back of the book as much as the story itself as it explains life in Kenya, including a map, some Kiswahili greetings and words and a recipe to try for those whom wish to taste a bit of Africa too.

A great addition and introduction to a cultural collection for kids.
  • This is one of my favorite children's books. In the story, a mother is shopping at the market for ingredients for pancakes and becomes increasingly frazzled as her son keeps inviting more and more people to dinner to share the pancakes with them - will they have enough? There is a lot of interesting information about Africa, new vocabulary and names to try out- well-explained in the back of the boo- but it's a universal story and mother-child relationship.
  • My 3 year old loves this book. Lovely story and illustrations. It's one I don't mind reading over and over again.
